‘I don’t sleep in my own houses’ — Ola of Lagos reveals why he rents

Nigerian influencer Ola of Lagos has revealed why he prefers renting an apartment despite owning houses, saying the financial responsibility of paying rent keeps him motivated to work harder.

Speaking on the KK Show podcast, Ola said living in one of his properties could make him too comfortable and reduce his drive to hustle.

“That is why I don’t sleep in any of my house, I will relax. Rent, pay rent, so that when the year ends, you know you want to pay 50 million. Pay. So that you go know say you have to work,” he said.

The influencer, however, clarified that his approach is based on his personal circumstances and should not be treated as a general rule for everyone.

“It’s fine to stay in your house you bought, but this is my own opinion, so don’t let that judge your life,” he said.

Ola also cautioned against blindly following financial advice shared on social media, stressing that decisions about buying a house or car should depend on an individual’s circumstances.

“It’s just like coming on the internet saying, ‘Oh, if you make your first money, don’t buy house, buy car. Oh, don’t buy car, buy house.’ No. It depends on your reality,” he said.

According to him, buying a car can also help some people build wealth if the vehicle enables them to generate enough income to eventually acquire property.

“Some people now, na the car wey they go buy, go buy them houses. My mentor online, he said his first car bought him all his houses. Yeah. So look at your current situation,” Ola added.
